July 2004

To start off, could you tell us what happened with You've been Framed? Why did you decide not to present the show anymore?

Jonathan: "We took the decision after having done the 75 shows, out of the studio as well. ITV offered me another series, but to be honest I think we've done enough. We'd like to find a show now, catered for Jonathan Wilkes, that's what's best for me.
Love on a Saturday Night; that unfortunately happened cos the show went from live to pre-recorded, so I couldn't do my live links anymore, which is a shame, but I think it's time to create a show where I'm me and what I'm about, and that's variety. I want to be singing and dancing on television. We're trying to create a show around that sort of thing."

So you weren't fired?

Jonathan: "Nooo, those rumours were absolute garbage. Complete garbage, I wasn't fired at all."

I know that you play the national Lotto. If you had a big win, what would be the first thing you'd buy for yourself?"
Donna from Leeds

Jonathan: "Oooh...I don't know - first thing I'd buy for myself...Port Vale."

And for someone else?

Jonathan: "Port Vale."

Hey Jonny! I was wondering which one of Robbie's songs is your favourite and why.
Sophie from Derby

Jonathan: "Hmmm...that's a good question. 'Angels' will always be my favourite song of all time. It's a song that means a lot to me for different reasons. But if I'd have to name one...I do like 'Hot Fudge'.

I think 'Hot Fudge' is great, it should have been a single. I told him, but he released 'Sexed Up' instead."

How's it going Jonny? Would you ever sing at one of your fan's weddings?
Lucy from Ramsgate

Jonathan: "Yeah! I would actually!"

What is the best thing and worst thing about being famous?
Christina from Germany

Jonathan: "The best thing is you get to play leads in musicals and you get free clothes! The worst thing is the intrusion of the press. They write some stuff in the papers, where you've got no power about whatsoever, and it's totally not true. You just want to tell them the truth, and you can't. I don't suffer, but I've seen my fans suffering, cos they get upset with press. I read on the forum about it. That's cos they don't know me, they don't know the real Jonathan Wilkes. They don't know me like my family know me. It upsets a lot of people."

What do you think of Harry Potter? If you like it, who is your favourite character?
Lee from Blackpool

Jonathan: "I've never read the books, cos I'm bad at reading, but I've watched a couple of the films and I tried to get into it, but I'm not massively into them. I'm a big Lord of the Rings fan."

Do you have any pets, or what would be your dream pet?
Amanda from Surrey

Jonathan: "No, I don't really, but Robbie has got three dogs which are virtually my dogs as well; Sammy, Sid and Duke."

What other stars would you like to get to know?
Mareen from Germany

Jonathan: "No-one. No stars."

Hi Jonny! If you had the chance to swap your job for any other job, what would you like to do?
Laura from Somerset

Jonathan: "This sounds really stupid, but when I was a kid and I still think that - I've always wanted to be a tv repairsman. I've always loved fixing tvs and videos, tuning them in. It's always been something I love, and I still do."

Hi Jonny. I saw a picture of you when you were a baby and you looked really cute. Were you a terror when you were little?
Lucy from UK

Jonathan: "I've asked my mum this the other week. She said I wasn't really. As long as I had a football I wasn't trouble. I've always been a cheeky little bugger, but that's me! So I suppose I've been cheeky but I was never really a bad boy."

Hi Jonathan, what's the most unusual dream you've ever had?

Are you enjoying married life?
Sally from Southend

Jonathan: "I'm loving it actually. Nothing has really changed much, but it's cool. It's weird when I go 'this is my wife', I feel like I'm 50!"

Hey Jonny, I heard somewhere that you suffer from dyslexia - is that true? If so, how do you manage to remember your lines so well?
Sazza from Dudley

Jonathan: "Yeah, I suffer from dyslexia - it's very much about reading and writing for me. When I'm reading, I really have to study, I really have to concentrate. Maybe I have to read things 3 or 4 times for it to get it sunk into my head. So what I do with scripts, is use my memory."

Hi Jonny! What was your favourite and least favourite subject at school?
Hannah from Bath

Jonathan: "Favourites were PE and maths, least favourite was geography. I hated the teacher."

Hi Jonny, I watched Saturday Night Takeaway and saw you getting stitched up. What was going through your mind when Ant & Dec removed their masks?

Jonathan: "I thought it was very funny and I couldn't believe I fell for it!"

Hi Jonny, well done for all your recent success. What was it like watching Nikki dance at Knebworth, bet you were proud?
Claire from Harwich

Jonathan: "Very very proud. It was nice, but hard though, cos I didn't know which one to watch; my best mate or my wife! But I managed to keep one eye on both. I am very proud of her, absolutely!"

Hiya duckie! What's the best board game you've ever played?
Podge from Blackburn

Jonathan: "Monopoly - always will be. I got banned from playing when I was a kid! I took it too seriously with my dad. My mum and dad had a proper fight over it. I have to win, I'm such a competitive person when it comes to Monopoly."

If you could be a woman, what would be the first thing you would do?
Maxim from Virgin Island

Jonathan: "A woman?! If all of a sudden I changed over night?! Go in the women's showers!"

Hi Jonny, you were great as Danny Zuko. Are you romantic and what's the most romantic thing you've ever done?
Siobhan from Glasgow

Jonathan: "I think I'm romantic but my Nikki says I've lost my romance! Yeah. I'm romantic...I think! The most romantic thing must have been when I proposed to her. I put flowers in the room, in bed and the bath."

Hi Jonny. I was wondering, did you ever take any memorabilia home from the shows you've been in?
Emma from Manchester

Jonathan: "I took home a little pendant from Godspell I used to wear, I took one of my garters home from Rocky, and a couple of pictures. So yeah. Don't know what I'll take home from Grease."

Who gets rid of the spiders in your house? And who did it when you still lived with Robbie?
Henry from North West

Jonathan: "Me. Me. Me. I don't mind spiders, I'm a spiderman fan!"

Hi Jonathan, do you prefer the audience to whoop, scream, clap or all of the above?
Zoe from Wigan

Jonathan: "All. As long as they're enjoying themselves!"

Hi Jonny, a couple of golf questions for you: What is your handicap? Where is your favourite course and who is your favourite golfing partner?
Luppy from Liverpool

Jonathan: "My handicap at the moment is 8. My favourite course is in Blackpool, Royal Lytham and St. Anne's. My favourite golfing partner...I've got so many mates I play golf with, so I don't think I've got a favourite golfing partner. Anybody who I'll beat!"

Monique from West Sussex

Jonathan: "Nokia 7210, I've had it for about two years now, I'm due a new one. I just like this one."

Have you enjoyed learning all the dance moves for Grease?
Helen from Chichester

Jonathan: "When I first saw the dance routines I absolutely sh*t myself! I thought 'I'm never going to learn these'. I don't think anybody did expect me to learn them. But I worked really hard and I do actually enjoy it now. A side of me I didn't think I could do. Now I can DANCE...(I think!)"

What's your favourite place in London?
Sarah-Kay and Mareen from Germany

Jonathan: "I still like Piccadilly actually. When I go to Piccadilly at night, and I see all the lights and stuff - it just reminds me of when I was a kid. When I went to London for the first time I thought 'wow, this is exciting, this is how London should be."

I was wondering if you could recommend any local places to get into theatre?
Sam from Burslem. Stoke-on-Trent

Jonathan: "I started at the 'North Staffs Operatic Society'. Maybe you should contact them, and say you spoke to me via the website."

Hi Jonathan! How do you feel about getting mobbed now? Trying to talk to you after Grease was really difficult for all the girls screaming at you!
Sarah from Gosport

Jonathan: "It varies, cos some nights I come out and there are people I have a little chat with and it's nice and they are honest with me and that's what I like. But sometimes you come out and girls go mental. I don't understand why they go mental. I don't understand that screaming thing in your face, I'll talk to them. I'd rather talk to them than them screaming at me. I don't like it when they scream at me, I don't see myself as one of those 'screaming-at persons'. I could understand if I was Gareth Gates."
